NEW NOISE: Fucked Up – The Chemistry of Common Life
By EileenThursday, October 30th, 2008
The Chemistry of Common Life, the band’s first release on Matador Records, is the bravest and most interesting take on hardcore in years. Rather than following the genres typical rules and tools of beatdowns and stolen Converge riffs, Fucked Up have made an album full of innovation. There are organs and wind instruments alongside guitars and drums, and female singers drifting above vocalist Pink Eyes’ gruff and abrasive tones. This is one of the most inventive punk albums I have heard since Refused came out with The Shape Of Punk To Come.

stolen Converge riffs?
where?!?
are you serious?
Poison Idea maybe.
But Converge? I don’t hear it.
if you herald them as innovators, why would they steal riffs?
‘Black Albino Bones” sounds similiar to something Bob Mould/Husker Du would have written.
but that’s influence, not stealing.

if you read a little more closely, i point out that this album does NOT steal converge riffs like a typical band of this genre would do. i said they were more innovative than that.

i did read closely.
you still have them pegged in your words “in the genre”
and then hold them high above them all.
show more conviction is all i’m saying.
then point out this innovation and not do so in a yawn.

ok… i dont really understand what you mean.. and im sorry if my review bothers you. its my opinion and you are entitled to yours… and i think my opinion is that this record is awesome.. and that they DIDNT steal anything. does this differ from your opinion? no? then what are we talking about here?
